The Paradox of Unwrapping

Let’s run through a familiar memory.
You just bought a new gadget / machine, which is wrapped in plastic. You are supposed to peel that layer of protection off, but even if you don’t, you can still use it rather well.
Some people will want to leave the plastic on for as long as possible, so as to preserve the gadget in its pristine state. In a sense, it’s like extending the (aesthetic) shelf life of the product.
Some others will peel off the plastic straight away, so that they can make full use of the product. What’s more, if it’s pretty underneath, won’t you be penalising yourself for not using something for what it’s worth?
If you just bought such an item, what will you do?
