Some people asked me why I got so excited with sunny Autumn days in Vancouver. They knew me, and know that I hated the sun back in Singapore. For one, the sun in Singapore came with hot and humid weather, which was a real dread. Over here, there was non of the uncomfortable feeling when the sun is out.
Do not be mistaken, though. I also like the rainy, cloudy weather in Vancouver. The low rise buildings in Vancouver offer me a a panoramic view of the rolling clouds that stir excitement in me. Why then do I not post pictures of Vancouver, taken when the clouds are in?
The lighting is simply not good for photos.
Even on sunny days, I had to edit my photos (with Snapseed, in case you are wondering), so that I could get that blue I like. On cloudy, low light days, I simply do not know how to go about editing my pictures.
The lush green tends to get unnatural when I try to brighten them up to contrast with the gloomy skies (which I like a lot in real life). The same goes for the red in the photo below.
Most of the time, I ended up in unsaturated, black and white photos.
It seemed like the best rainy day pictures I’ve taken so far were those in North Vancouver!
If anyone can give me tips on how to edit my photos for such low light settings, please let me know!
In the meantime, please enjoy the cloudy, rainy days of Vancouver in Fall, 2019.
Till then, sing while you can!
