How many 11 years do we have in our lifetimes?

With 2023 – 2025 being the peak of the solar cycle, plans were made 2 years in advance for this epic journey to see the dancing curtains of light in real life. From accumulating air miles to redeem Business Class flights, to booking hotels and tours, and down to packing the right stuff to survive the harsh Arctic winter… It was such a heavy undertaking, I wanted to share my experience, so that anyone who wants to chase the northern lights – be it now or 11 years later – wouldn’t be groping in the dark.

On Day 5 in Iceland, we embarked on a whale watching tour in Dalvik, encountering majestic creatures up close. We then explored the charming town of Siglufjörður.

Day 4 took us on a journey through Iceland’s diverse landscapes. We hiked through the windswept Stuðlagil Canyon, explored the otherworldly geothermal area of Hverir, the lava pillars of Dimmuborgir and the breathtaking Goðafoss waterfall!

Day 3 took us off the beaten path to explore Iceland’s lesser-known wonders. We soaked in the geothermal pools of Vok Baths, surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Our rural accommodation at Wilderness Center Óbyggðasetrið provided a unique glimpse into Icelandic country life.
